HDFC Bank has announced that its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Sashidhar Jagdishan will retire on 26 October 2026. The decision was formally disclosed in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange on 29 August 2026. Jagdishan has chosen not to seek reappointment even though the board had urged him to continue. His current term, which was extended in 2023, will conclude in 2026.
The board has started the process of selecting his successor and assured stakeholders that the transition will be smooth. Jagdishan took charge as CEO in 2020 and is credited with guiding the bank through a period of strong growth and stability. He also played a central role in completing one of the largest corporate mergers in India, which strengthened the bank’s position in the financial sector.
During his tenure, HDFC Bank maintained its reputation for sound governance and strategic direction. The board expressed appreciation for his leadership and acknowledged his contribution to building resilience and expansion. The next chief executive will inherit a bank that is well placed for future growth after the merger.
This retirement marks the end of an important chapter for HDFC Bank and sets the stage for a new leadership era that will shape its journey ahead.
