US President Joe Biden is set to arrive in India on September 7, two days ahead of the G-20 summit in New Delhi. He will engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8, followed by the G-20 Leaders Summit on September 9 and 10. The G-20 agenda encompasses critical discussions on topics such as clean energy transition, climate change, the Ukraine-Russia conflict, and enhancing the capacity of multilateral development banks like the World Bank to combat poverty.

The White House released a statement affirming President Biden’s visit and his commendation of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in the G-20. The visit underscores the US commitment to the G-20 as the premier forum for economic cooperation, with the US hosting it in 2026.

Following his visit to India, President Biden will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, on September 10, where he is scheduled to meet with Vietnam General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Meanwhile, the White House has confirmed that US First Lady Jill Biden has contracted Covid-19. She previously had Covid in August 2022, while President Joe Biden, who is now 80 years old, last tested positive in July 2022. The First Lady is experiencing mild symptoms, and President Biden has tested negative for the virus, ensuring his trip to India for the Summit.

The G-20 consists of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union (EU). Guest countries include Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain, and the UAE.
