Sensex climbed 685 points (0.94%) to close at 73,068 while Nifty advanced 220 points (0.97%) to end at 22,776, marking the second straight day of gains. Bank Nifty rose 414 points (0.76%) to 55,128 and Midcap index surged 638 points (1.08%) to 59,761. Market breadth was strong with a 2:1 advance‑decline ratio.
The rally was supported by five clear drivers. First, crude oil prices slipped below $100 per barrel, easing inflation concerns and boosting investor confidence. Second, quarterly updates lifted sentiment. Kotak Mahindra Bank gained 4%, Trent jumped 12%, and FMCG stocks rose over 1%. Third, Reliance Industries added nearly 60 points to Nifty, reflecting strong buying interest. Fourth, capital market and consumer durable shares rallied. BSE rose 4% while PG Electroplast gained 8% on demand expectations. Fifth, broader gains outweighed sectoral weakness. IT stocks fell nearly 1% and hospital shares dropped ahead of a Supreme Court hearing, but PB Fintech rose 6% after regulatory support.
Market capitalisation of BSE‑listed firms increased by nearly ₹6 lakh crore in two sessions. Major gainers included Trent, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindustan Aeronautics, Nestle India, Jio Financial Services and InterGlobe Aviation.
