TRAI Rule: How Long SIMs Stay Active Without Recharge

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced a new rule to extend the validity of SIM cards from major telecom providers like Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL. This rule allows users to keep their SIMs active without a recharge for longer periods, helping them avoid frequent recharges and reduce expenses.

For Jio users, the SIM stays active for 90 days without any recharge. After this period, users need a reactivation plan. During these 90 days, incoming call facilities may vary based on the user’s previous recharge. If users do not recharge after 90 days, they lose the SIM, and it gets reallocated.

Airtel SIM cards remain active for 60 days without any recharge. After this period, users must purchase a minimum validity plan to keep their number operational. Vi users also get a 90-day grace period without recharging their SIM. After this period, they need a Rs 49 validity plan to retain the number’s services.

BSNL offers the longest validity period, keeping a SIM active for 180 days without any recharge. This makes BSNL the most user-friendly option for those who want to avoid frequent recharges.

These new guidelines simplify SIM management and help users plan their recharges more efficiently, especially for those juggling multiple numbers or struggling with expensive plans.
