India’s AI Model to Rival ChatGPT in 10 Months

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India’s AI foundational model, similar to ChatGPT and DeepSeek, will be ready in 10 months. The model aims to address local needs and challenges, reflecting Indian context and culture.

India launched a compute facility with 18,000 GPUs, surpassing its target of 10,000 GPUs. This facility will support startups, researchers, and developers. Six major developers are working on the model, which could be ready in 4-6 months.

The initiative is part of the broader India AI Mission. It focuses on solving real-world problems in healthcare, education, agriculture, and climate change. The government aims to position India as a leader in AI technology by developing a model that caters to the unique needs of the country.
