Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff and his family once turned a casual gathering into one of their biggest financial triumphs. In the mid-1990s, they invested in Sony Entertainment Television India, turning an initial ₹1 lakh investment into nearly ₹100 crore over 15 years — a story that has now become part of Bollywood business folklore.

Revealing details in a candid interview on Zerodha-backed YouTube channel Zero1 Hustle, Jackie’s wife and film producer Ayesha Shroff recalled how the deal materialised through persistence, teamwork, and finally — a well-timed party. Along with six friends from diverse professions including banking, television, and technology, they competed against big Indian business groups for the Sony India investment opportunity.

Negotiations dragged on for over a year until Ayesha suggested hosting a party at Mumbai’s popular Marine Drive club, Archies. The entire film industry turned up, demonstrating the Shroff family’s influence. The visiting Sony executive from Los Angeles, impressed by the turnout, finalised the deal the next morning.

The family eventually exited the investment in 2005 with sizeable returns. Today, Jackie Shroff’s personal net worth is estimated at nearly ₹400 crore, while Sony TV India’s worth is close to ₹770 crore, according to CRISIL Ratings. For the Shroffs, it remains their most remarkable wealth-building story.
