Tata Motors has made history by beating Maruti Suzuki in car sales for the first time in 40 years. The Tata Punch, a small SUV, was the top-selling car in 2024. It sold over 202,000 units, overtaking Maruti Suzuki’s Wagon R, which sold 191,000 units. This change shows that people now prefer SUVs and premium vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki, which once held a 52% market share in 2018, has seen its hold on the market drop to 41% in 2024. Tata Motors took advantage of this trend by expanding its SUV range and offering different types of engines. Tata Motors also had record-breaking sales in 2024. They sold a total of 565,000 units, marking the fourth year in a row of record sales.
