SEBI reports that over Rs 500 crore of investor assets are unclaimed with stock brokers as of January 31, 2025. This includes Rs 323 crore in funds and Rs 182 crore in securities. SEBI’s new framework aims to ensure these assets are returned to their rightful owners through compliance measures and a structured process for claiming these assets.

To claim unclaimed investor assets from stock brokers, follow these steps:

  1. Contact Trading Members (TMs): Reach out to the trading member (TM) associated with your account.
  2. Provide Necessary Documents: Submit required identification and account-related documents.
  3. Verify Ownership: Confirm your ownership of the unclaimed assets.
  4. File a Claim: Complete and submit a claim form to the TM.
  5. Claim Approval: Wait for the TM to process and approve your claim.
  6. Receive Assets: Once approved, the unclaimed assets will be transferred to you.
