ICICI Bank Q2 profit rises but margins face pressure

ICICI Bank reported strong second quarter results for FY27 with net profit rising 20% year on year to ₹14,843 crore. The growth was driven by healthy loan expansion and lower provisions. Consolidated net profit stood at ₹16,333 crore, marking a 22.3% increase. Net interest income rose 17.7% to ₹25,339 crore while operating profit grew 21.8% to ₹20,805 crore. Provisions declined 6.9% year on year to ₹851 crore, reflecting improved asset quality.

Loan book expanded sharply to ₹18.32 lakh crore, up 30% compared with last year. Excluding foreign currency deposits, growth was 24.1%. Deposits rose 27.1% to ₹20.50 lakh crore, with term deposits contributing more, bringing CASA ratio to 35.8%.

Margins showed some strain as net interest margin moderated to 4.18% from 4.30% a year earlier. The decline was linked to inflows from foreign currency deposits and reduced interest benefit from tax refunds.

Asset quality improved significantly. Gross non‑performing assets fell to 1.20% from 1.58% last year, while net non‑performing assets dropped to 0.30% from 0.39%. Provision coverage ratio remained strong at 75%.

The balance sheet stayed healthy with total assets at ₹32.93 lakh crore and net worth at ₹3.49 lakh crore. Capital adequacy under Basel III stood at 16.68%, higher than 15.76% last year.

Overall, ICICI Bank delivered robust earnings growth, supported by strong loan demand and disciplined credit management, though margin pressure remains a key watch point.
