Brazilian aerospace company Embraer has selected Mahindra Group as its Indian partner for the Medium Transport Aircraft programme of the Air Force. The project covers 60 aircraft, with 48 to be manufactured in India. Embraer will supply its C390 Millennium model. This partnership is expected to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing base and support the Make in India vision.
The agreement focuses on building local manufacturing capacity along with maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities. It also aims to create a strong supply chain for military aviation. The move will reduce dependence on imports and improve self reliance in defence technology.
In a separate development, Embraer has joined hands with Adani Group to explore opportunities in India’s civilian aviation sector. Plans include the E175 regional jet and a final assembly line in India. This step could boost domestic aircraft production and generate employment.
Industry experts believe these alliances mark a major step for India’s aerospace ambitions. Mahindra’s entry into defence aviation expands its role beyond automobiles and mobility.
