Meta and Google’s early bet on Jio Platforms has turned into a huge paper profit as the company prepares for its public listing. Both tech giants had invested in Jio Platforms in 2020 at ₹488.34 per share. With the IPO price band fixed between ₹1,065 and ₹1,119 per share, their combined holdings are now valued at nearly ₹1 lakh crore, more than double their original investment.
Meta’s investment arm, Jaadhu Holdings, owns 892.28 million shares, while Google International holds 690.85 million shares. At the upper end of the IPO range, Meta’s stake is worth around ₹99,846 crore and Google’s about ₹77,307 crore. Meta had invested ₹43,573 crore and Google ₹33,737 crore, giving them unrealised gains of nearly 2.3 times.
The IPO opens on October 21 and closes on October 23. Jio Platforms will issue 270 million new shares to raise about ₹30,200 crore. The funds will mainly be used to repay borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm and for general corporate purposes.
Neither Meta nor Google will sell their shares in the offering, showing long-term confidence in Jio’s growth. Their partnerships with Jio highlight global trust in India’s expanding digital economy and set a benchmark for valuing Reliance’s technology ventures.
