US President Donald Trump announced a major trade deal with China on Saturday night, signaling a positive turn in relations between the two economic giants. Both countries have agreed to suspend retaliatory tariffs imposed over the last six months. This includes tariffs imposed since March 4 on a wide variety of US agricultural products such as chicken, wheat, corn, cotton, soybeans, pork, beef, and dairy items.
In addition to tariff suspension, China has also agreed to lift export controls on rare earth elements, which are crucial for many industries, and to open its markets further to US agricultural exports. This agreement marks a significant easing of tensions and could boost trade and economic growth on both sides.
President Trump shared his optimism about the deal on his social media, describing the meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping as great for both countries and expressing hope for lasting peace and success.
Furthermore, the US and China have agreed to establish direct military-to-military communication channels. US Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth mentioned that this step would help reduce conflicts and quickly resolve any issues between the two nations. He noted a positive meeting with China’s Minister of National Defense, Admiral Dong Jun, indicating a mutual commitment to maintaining stability.
This latest agreement between the US and China is expected to improve diplomatic ties, ease trade tensions, and create more opportunities for business cooperation moving forward.
