United Arab Emirates is taking a bold step to establish itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence by aiming to produce 60 trillion AI tokens at its new Stargate AI campus in Abu Dhabi. Described by Omar Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for AI, as the “world’s factory of intelligence”, this initiative represents the country’s commitment to harnessing AI at a massive scale.
AI tokens are small data units that help machines process, understand, and generate information. By producing them in large numbers, the UAE plans to transform raw data into actionable intelligence that can enhance decision-making, improve productivity, and support economic growth.
The Stargate facility forms the centrepiece of this vision. It is built as a hyperscale AI factory with a planned capacity of 1 gigawatt, eventually expanding to 5GW. The UAE plans to scale production as global demand for AI processing grows.
Officials compare AI tokens to a new kind of national asset—much like oil in the digital age. The UAE’s efforts have already shown economic benefits, with AI saving around Dh500 million in the energy sector. This ambitious project reflects the Emirates’ determination to become a global hub for AI innovation, efficiency, and sustainable development.
