US President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose reciprocal tariffs on India and China. At Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s swearing-in, Trump emphasized that the US will charge the same tariffs that these countries impose on American goods. He stressed fairness, saying, “They charge us, we charge them.” This plan was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but is now set to be implemented.
In a recent Fox News interview, Trump discussed the high tariffs American companies face in countries like India. He gave the example of Harley-Davidson, which had to set up manufacturing units abroad to avoid high import duties. Trump mentioned his conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making it clear that India would not be exempt from these tariffs.
Trump praised Commerce Secretary Lutnick’s business acumen and expressed confidence in his ability to handle the new tariff policies. He also humorously noted that “tariff” was once his favorite word, now ranked fourth after “family,” “love,” and “God.”
