USAID Funds 7 Indian Projects, Not for Voter Turnout

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) funded seven projects in India in the financial year 2023-24, worth approximately $750 million. However, contrary to recent claims, none of these projects were related to enhancing voter turnout.

The projects focused on various areas, including:

Agriculture and Food Security: Improving agricultural productivity and food security

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: Enhancing access to clean water and sanitation facilities

Renewable Energy: Promoting the use of renewable energy sources

Disaster Management: Strengthening disaster preparedness and response

Health: Improving healthcare services and infrastructure

Sustainable Forests and Climate Adaptation: Conserving forests and promoting climate resilience

Energy Efficiency: Promoting energy-efficient technologies and practices

These projects are part of the US-India bilateral development partnership, which has provided over $17 billion in assistance to India since 1951.
