The Har Ghar Surya Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024, aims to provide free electricity to households through solar panel installation. The government subsidizes up to 40% of the installation cost, potentially saving ₹75,000 crore annually in electricity costs. The scheme is available across India, with a special focus on rural and remote areas.

Households benefit by generating their own electricity, which reduces monthly bills and increases property value. To apply, households need a suitable rooftop, access to a power grid, and a valid electricity connection. The subsidy depends on the system capacity, with 60% for systems up to 2kW and 40% for additional capacity up to 3kW.

The Yojana not only promotes clean energy but also helps reduce the carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels. It offers a sustainable solution to energy needs, especially in areas with frequent power outages. By encouraging the use of solar energy, the government aims to make India more energy-independent and environmentally friendly.

The initiative is part of the broader goal to increase the adoption of renewable energy sources and achieve a greener future for the country.
