Massive IT and ED Raids on Waaree Energies over US Tariff Probe

Waaree Energies is under the spotlight as Indian and US authorities investigate alleged violations linked to anti-dumping and countervailing duties on solar cells and panels. The scrutiny stems from suspicions that the company may have mislabeled Chinese-made solar components as “Made in India” to avoid steep US tariffs imposed on products from China and select Southeast Asian countries.

The American Alliance for Solar Manufacturing Trade Committee has accused Waaree of using Chinese-origin materials without paying mandatory import duties. Acting on these claims, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched a formal probe, citing reasonable suspicion of tariff circumvention. As an interim measure, the CBP has directed Waaree and related importers to provide cash deposits on shipments while the investigation continues.

The inquiry also extends to Waaree’s US operations, including its Texas-based subsidiary and manufacturing facilities. Authorities are assessing whether the company’s practices resulted in any breach of customs regulations or unfair pricing advantages in the American solar market.

In response, Waaree Energies clarified that it is fully cooperating with both Indian and US agencies, stressing that it operates in full compliance with all applicable trade and customs laws.
