Reliance Retail is preparing to enter the Indian ice cream market with its familiar strategy of scale, affordability and wide distribution. The company, led by Mukesh Ambani, has often disrupted consumer industries by using its pricing advantage and retail reach. Now it is expected to apply the same formula to the fast growing ice cream sector valued at nearly ₹20,000 crore.

Industry experts believe Reliance will use its 10% pricing power to attract mass consumers. This approach has worked in telecom and packaged goods where Reliance offered affordable options and expanded consumption beyond urban centres. Ice cream could follow the same path, moving from occasional indulgence to everyday purchase for families across tier two and tier three cities.

Premium brands such as Bombay Creamery and other niche players may face strong competition. Reliance’s entry could force rivals to rethink pricing, distribution and product positioning. Analysts expect Reliance to scale quickly because of its existing retail network and ability to bundle products with other offerings.

India’s ice cream market is already growing at double digit rates, driven by rising incomes and changing lifestyles. Reliance’s move is likely to intensify competition and reshape consumer preferences. The company’s strategy could make ice cream more accessible and affordable, creating new demand across the country.
