PB Fintech, in its recent analyst call, described the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India’s consultation paper as quite extreme, hinting at possible regulatory pressure on the insurance industry. The company said life insurance net present value is unlikely to face a major impact, but revenue on the general insurance side could be seriously affected.
The management added that larger agents may find it less profitable to sell policies under the proposed commission structure. It questioned why agents receive higher commissions than Point‑of‑Sale Persons and noted that removing distribution, which drives growth, would not make operations faster or lighter. PB Fintech also pointed out that the consultation paper was prepared without sufficient input from distributors, calling for a more balanced approach.
The company is exploring new opportunities across insurance and reinsurance manufacturing to strengthen its business model amid regulatory changes. Hiring may slow down as PB Fintech adjusts its cost structure and focuses on efficiency. The management clarified that it is not revisiting its international business plans, preferring to concentrate on domestic expansion.
Overall, PB Fintech’s tone reflected cautious optimism, balancing regulatory challenges with strategic exploration and sustainable growth within India’s evolving fintech and insurance landscape.
