India and the United States are moving closer to finalising a trade agreement within the next few months. President Donald Trump is expected to place Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the centre of his agenda during the G20 Summit in Miami scheduled for December. US envoy Sergio Gor confirmed that talks are progressing despite delays caused by a Supreme Court ruling in America which required parts of the deal to be rewritten. He expressed confidence that both sides remain committed to completing the agreement soon.

Gor highlighted that Modi will be a top priority for Trump at the summit and hinted at possible side meetings beyond the formal sessions. He also suggested that Trump may visit India again next year, recalling his earlier trip fondly. Indian ministers including Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are expected to play important roles in the discussions.

The trade deal is seen as a cornerstone of India US economic ties. It is expected to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors, boost bilateral trade flows, improve market access and reinforce strategic trust. Trump’s prioritisation of Modi at the G20 signals India’s growing importance in US foreign policy. Both nations believe the agreement will be mutually beneficial and are determined to conclude it soon.
