Equity mutual funds attracted strong inflows in August with net equity inflows rising to ₹29,315 crore, an 18.8% jump from July. Small-cap funds recorded their highest inflows in two years while mid-cap funds touched a one-year peak. Large-cap funds, however, continued to face outflows for the second month in a row, showing investor preference for smaller categories.

Systematic Investment Plans remained the backbone of retail participation. SIP contributions reached a record ₹32,297 crore in August compared to ₹31,115 crore in July, marking a 3.8% increase. Around 66.39 lakh new SIP accounts were registered while 53.82 lakh were discontinued, reflecting steady investor discipline despite market volatility.

Exchange Traded Funds also saw healthy inflows of ₹10,161 crore, with equity ETFs contributing ₹7,237 crore, gold ETFs ₹2,597 crore and silver ETFs ₹1,271 crore. Specialised Investment Funds added ₹7,699 crore, highlighting diversification trends.

The data shows retail investors are consistently investing through SIPs while shifting focus from large-cap funds to small and mid-cap categories. Alternative segments like ETFs and SIFs are also gaining traction, underlining confidence in diversified investment avenues.

This momentum signals strong retail resilience and growing appetite for varied equity opportunities in the Indian market.
