Domestic Institutional Investors have shown strong confidence in India’s defence sector by steadily increasing their holdings in four major companies. Avantel, Astra Microwave, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Bharat Dynamics have all witnessed consistent buying by DIIs over the past few quarters. This trend highlights the growing importance of defence manufacturing in India’s economic and strategic plans.

Avantel has seen DII stake rise from zero in December 2025 to 1.1% by June 2026. The company holds an order book worth ₹720 crore for FY27 and FY28. Its Q1 FY27 revenue stood at ₹70.4 crore with net profit of ₹5.4 crore.

Astra Microwave Products reported DII stake climbing from 14.8% to 16.1% in three quarters. Its order book is valued at ₹2,141 crore as of March 2026. The firm posted Q4 FY26 revenue of ₹488.2 crore and net profit of ₹106.9 crore.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders saw DII stake move from 1.6% to 1.9%. Q1 FY27 income reached ₹1,914 crore with profit of ₹173 crore, marking a 44% rise. The company commissioned three warships in June 2026.

Bharat Dynamics recorded DII stake growth from 10.9% to 11.5%. Its FY26 revenue was ₹2,442 crore with net profit of ₹420 crore. The order book stands at ₹26,176 crore.

Consistent DII buying signals strong sectoral confidence, though investors must weigh valuations, execution risks and earnings growth before investing.
