Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) made notable changes to its ₹16 lakh crore portfolio in the June quarter. The insurer was a net buyer, investing more than ₹16,500 crore in equities, while selling shares worth over ₹13,400 crore.

Bharti Airtel was among the biggest buys, with LIC increasing its stake by 1.47 crore shares, taking the total to 25.82 crore shares. Maruti Suzuki saw an addition of 17.02 lakh shares, while ITC gained 5.84 crore shares. Other major purchases included Kotak Mahindra Bank, UltraTech Cement, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance, Lupin, Power Grid, and IRFC. LIC’s holding in IRFC rose to 46.22 crore shares.

On the selling side, LIC reduced its stake in Coal India by 4.97 crore shares, worth ₹2,271 crore. State Bank of India also saw a cut of 2.15 crore shares, bringing LIC’s holding down to 78.14 crore shares. Hindustan Unilever, SAIL, Tata Steel, Bharat Forge, Tata Consumer Products, ICICI Bank, Nestle India, and ONGC were also trimmed.

Despite aggressive buying, LIC’s overall share in NSE-listed equities fell to a record low, showing how fast the broader market is expanding. Financial services remain its largest sector exposure, while IT and energy weights declined.

This reshuffle reflects LIC’s strategy of balancing growth opportunities with profit booking, keeping its portfolio aligned with market trends.
