Infosys founder Narayana Murthy’s family office, Catamaran Ventures, has made fresh investments worth ₹360 crore in two manufacturing companies, signalling confidence in India’s industrial growth story.
Regulatory filings show that Catamaran has taken a major position in Sansera Engineering, a Bengaluru‑based maker of precision forged and machined components. The investment of about ₹336 crore highlights belief in Sansera’s strong performance. The company supplies critical parts such as connecting rods to automobile makers and also serves aerospace and agriculture sectors. Sansera has reduced debt and reported healthy profit growth in the last financial year. Its shares have delivered impressive returns since listing in 2021, though valuations remain high compared to peers.
Alongside this, Catamaran has invested nearly ₹26 crore in M M Forgings, a Chennai‑based steel forging company with a long history. The firm has faced challenges in recent years due to rising debt and interest costs, which have weighed on profits. Institutional investors have trimmed their holdings, but Catamaran appears to see potential in its recovery. Recent improvements in cash flow and efforts to reduce borrowings could support a turnaround.
Together, these moves reflect a balanced strategy. Catamaran is backing a proven performer while also testing opportunities in a struggling but established player. The investments underline confidence in India’s manufacturing sector, though risks of high valuations and debt remain important factors for investors to consider.
