Pentagon warns of missile shortages as Iran conflict deepens

Pentagon has warned that America’s missile reserves are under pressure as the Iran conflict continues. A recent report highlights that the United States has already spent 33.4 billion dollars till June, with 22.3 billion dollars on weapons, 7.4 billion dollars on related costs and 3.7 billion dollars on lost equipment. The watchdog notes that defence contractors may need three years to restore pre‑war levels, showing the strain on the industrial base.

Military losses include 30 MQ‑9 Reaper drones, each valued at 30 million dollars, and damage to KC‑135 refuelling aircraft. US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman and Jordan have faced repeated missile and drone strikes. Supply lines have been rerouted through Diego Garcia, adding delays and costs.

Diplomatic missions have also suffered. Embassies and consulates in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and UAE reported property losses worth 184 million dollars. Nearly 9,000 US citizens were evacuated at a cost of 80 million dollars. Despite shortages, Washington approved 44 billion dollars in defence packages for allies including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Israel.

The Pentagon insists US forces remain capable, but the report reveals mounting financial strain, supply bottlenecks and vulnerability to Iranian strikes, raising questions about long‑term readiness.
