Reliance Industries is witnessing rare trading activity ahead of the upcoming initial public offering of Jio Platforms. Market data shows two traders have taken unusually large leveraged positions in Reliance, described by analysts as “rarest of rare.”
These positions, each crossing 3% of Reliance’s market‑wide position limit (MWPL), have been built steadily since early October. Such scale is almost unheard of in Reliance’s derivatives market. Even during Meta’s ₹43,574 crore investment in Jio in 2020 or the pandemic‑driven crash, no single client held such a large share of MWPL.
Reliance shares recently fell to fresh lows, prompting traders to bet on a rebound. The timing is crucial, as Jio Platforms is preparing for India’s biggest‑ever IPO, expected to raise more than ₹30,000 crore. The offering will include a fresh issue of 27 crore shares, priced between ₹1,065 and ₹1,119 each.
The IPO will open on 21 October 2026 and close on 23 October 2026. Reliance will retain majority ownership, while the listing will give investors a direct chance to participate in the telecom and digital services arm’s growth story.
Market watchers say these rare bets underline investor confidence in Reliance’s long‑term prospects, even as short‑term volatility continues.
