State Bank of India and its subsidiary SBI Capital Markets will dilute up to 1% stake in the National Stock Exchange through its upcoming public offer. The IPO is expected to raise about ₹30,000 crore, making it one of the largest in Indian capital markets. SBI will sell 0.65% stake while SBI Capital Markets will offload 0.35%. At present, SBI holds 3.23% in NSE and SBI Capital Markets owns 4.33%.

SBI Chairman C S Setty confirmed that the bank will participate in the divestment. He also clarified that there are no immediate plans to monetise other subsidiaries. Recently, SBI and Amundi diluted 10% stake in SBI Mutual Fund through a ₹9,800 crore public offer which was subscribed 42 times.

Alongside this capital market activity, SBI continues to strengthen its retail lending portfolio. Its mortgage book is expected to cross ₹10 lakh crore this quarter, after surpassing ₹9 lakh crore last year. SBI commands nearly 28% share in the home loan segment and operates more than 460 processing centres across India. Transparent pricing and strict builder due diligence have helped the bank maintain customer trust.

This move reflects SBI’s balanced strategy of participating in capital markets while expanding its core lending business, reinforcing its position as India’s leading financial institution.
