In the second half of August, overseas investors brought in nearly $3 billion into Indian equities, marking one of the strongest phases of foreign inflows this year. This surge came after a period of cautious trading, reflecting renewed optimism about India’s economic outlook and corporate earnings.

The bulk of the money went into financial services, especially banks and NBFCs, which are seen as direct beneficiaries of rising credit demand and stable interest rates. IT companies also attracted strong interest, with investors betting on digital transformation and global outsourcing trends. Select consumer stocks in FMCG and retail gained traction, as foreign funds looked for steady demand-driven growth.

Interestingly, FIIs reduced exposure in metals and energy, sectors facing global price pressures. Instead, they preferred companies with predictable earnings and strong balance sheets. Analysts believe this inflow signals confidence in India’s resilience amid global uncertainties, including US interest rate moves and China’s slowdown.

Market experts say continued inflows could support indices like Nifty and Sensex, keeping valuations firm. However, they caution that volatility may persist if global cues turn negative. For now, India remains a bright spot, with FIIs clearly positioning for long-term growth.
