Delhi Drivers Hit Hard As CNG Rates Rise Again

Compressed Natural Gas prices have been raised again in Delhi and Noida‑Ghaziabad by one rupee per kilogram. This is the second increase within two days. The new rate in Delhi is ₹80.09 per kilogram, while in Noida‑Ghaziabad it is ₹88.70 per kilogram.

Indraprastha Gas Limited explained that the hike was necessary because of higher input costs. The government has reduced the allocation of cheaper domestic gas and increased the price of new well gas. In addition, the appreciation of the US dollar has added pressure on costs.

Despite these challenges, the rise has been kept limited. Experts point out that the actual increase should have been much higher, nearly eleven rupees per standard cubic metre, but the government restricted the hike to one rupee. This has helped keep CNG relatively affordable for consumers.

Earlier, on May 15, prices were raised by two rupees per kilogram. The latest revision adds further burden on vehicle owners and transport operators. However, CNG continues to remain a cost‑effective option compared to petrol and diesel. Even after the increase, users can save up to forty‑five percent on fuel expenses.

Public and private transport fleets are expected to feel the pinch, but the overall affordability of CNG ensures that it remains a preferred choice for many commuters in the region.
