Finance Ministry sources said the upcoming GST Council meeting on October 7 will mainly focus on process reforms and improving the ease of doing business. The government is working to make tax procedures simpler and faster, aiming to reduce compliance burdens for companies and promote smoother operations across sectors.
Officials also confirmed that the government is finalising a new Bilateral Investment Treaty framework, which is expected to be approved soon. The new framework will help attract foreign investments and ensure fair protection for investors while maintaining India’s sovereign rights.
India is currently negotiating investment treaties with several countries, including Canada, to strengthen economic cooperation and boost investor confidence. Sources clarified that tax matters will not be included in these treaties, as Parliament retains full authority over taxation policies.
Meanwhile, the disinvestment process of IDBI Bank is progressing as planned, with the government confident of completing it within the scheduled timeline.
The Finance Ministry’s focus on reforms, investment treaties, and disinvestment reflects its broader goal of creating a transparent and investor-friendly environment. These steps are expected to support economic growth and enhance India’s position as a preferred destination for global investors.
