The Ministry of External Affairs has raised concerns over the United States Department of Labor’s decision to suspend the Permanent Labor Certification programme for selected companies. Officials clarified that this move is separate from the H‑1B visa system but could affect the Green Card process for eligible employees of the affected firms.
India stressed that talent mobility is a shared advantage for both nations, supporting innovation, productivity, and economic growth. The ministry noted that the US decision does not align with the broader ambitions of India and America to strengthen cooperation in technology and business.
The statement urged all stakeholders to recognise the importance of open talent exchange, highlighting that Indian professionals contribute significantly to the US economy and innovation ecosystem. It added that generations of immigrants have played a vital role in shaping America’s prosperity, and restricting opportunities undermines this tradition.
India confirmed it will continue monitoring developments closely and expects constructive engagement from all parties involved. The government emphasised that policies encouraging free movement of skilled professionals are essential for sustaining mutual growth and advancing shared goals.
