Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has launched VISHWAS 2026, a one-time settlement scheme to help employers clear disputes over delayed provident fund deposits. The scheme reduces penalties sharply compared to the usual heavy charges.
Normally, late deposits attract penalties of up to 37% per year. Under VISHWAS 2026, employers will pay only 0.25% per month for delays up to two months. For delays between two and four months, the penalty rises to 0.50% per month. If the delay exceeds four months, the penalty is 1% per month.
The scheme applies to disputes pending in courts, tribunals or recovery stages. It also covers cases where penalty notices have been issued but not finalised. Employers must first clear all outstanding interest on delayed payments. After that, they can apply online through the EPFO employer portal. Once payment is made, EPFO issues a digitally signed settlement certificate, closing all related proceedings.
The deadline to apply is 28 December 2026. Officials have confirmed there will be no extension. Therefore, employers should act quickly to avoid heavier liabilities later. Support is available through VISHWAS cells, helpdesks at 153 EPFO offices, and a toll-free helpline.
This scheme provides certainty, reduces litigation costs, and allows employers to settle provident fund disputes at far lower rates. It is a timely chance to resolve issues with peace of mind.
